The Kiplingcotes Derby
Begun 1519 with rules drawn in 1618 and a permanent endowment given in 1669, this 482 year old race traditionally takes place in March and covers 4 miles of public roads in Yorkshire, England. Due to cancellation by a nationwide Hoof and Mouth disease in 2001, the race was walked by one horse and rider to ensure continuation of the unbroken record.
